INTERNATIONAL LEARNING HUB KOREA

- ACTIVITY FLOW –

  “Through fun educational workshops conducted by talented, intellectual individuals from foreign countries International Learning Hub Korea aims to become an interactive organization where Korean children can receive ideas, share experiences, cultural views and thoughts. “

-ILHK

  International Learning Hub Korea is a new platform where foreigners and Koreans residing in Korea participate in educational workshops fulfilling several goals:

  1. Relieve stigma which surrounds foreigners and introduce multiculturalism; professionalism regarding their major or careers; and overall tolerance;

  2. Introduce the variety of new educational techniques which avoid stressful attitudes towards language learning, science, arts etc.

  3. Introduce new ways to fulfill inner interests; boost confidence; encourage curiosity and creativity etc;

  The above goals are achieved through the already mentioned workshops in next order.

  Workshop preparation starts with the recruitment and activity design. Recruitment is conducted to prepare ILHK teams for the upcoming semester, and there are five teams:

  • Language & Culture

  • Science & Technology

  • Arts & Games

  • Crafts & Tastes

  • Help & Fun

  The teams serve 2 different kinds of purposes and they can also be divided in three groups according to their goals.

  The first four teams have educational purpose and the fifth team has practical purpose. Also Language & Culture, Science & Technology teams are more focused on teaching and executing tasks, but Arts & Games and Crafts & Tastes have more exploring goals, and are more free ranged. The Help & Fun team has a goal to support and organize the workshop and monitor all the ongoings of the workshop day.

  The recruited volunteers will pass through strict sets of discussions in order to find out to in which team they are going to be placed. Those will be conducted through various means, such as meetings in-person, online (through their respective provided details) etc. This flow will be followed by activity design and others in next timeline:

  • Recruitment: the ILHK recruitment will be open throughout the whole year, however will be done in several circles, regarding the fact that ILHK activity designs and workshops are considering school vacations, midterms and final exams.   • 5th step: filling in the documentation: Health Checkup; Criminal Record Background Check**; ILHK and NGLF commitment letter etc;

  • 6th step: ILHK orientation: includes whole day training for all the 3rd semester volunteers; learning about different situations which may arise; getting acquainted with the rules and guidelines; meeting the team; activity presentations;

  The ILHK workshops are designated for children attending elementary and middle school, aging from 10 to 15 years. Since ILHK is targeting places where is harder for children to interact with foreigners, workshops are conducted at the schools in surrounding areas of Seoul such as Incheon, Yangju, Suwon*** etc., with intention to conduct the workshops in all the areas of South Korea. The timings and the procedure of the workshops are as follows:

  ILHK  WORKSHOP PROCEDURE AND TIMING

  • Time: the workshops are held on Saturdays starting from 1:30pm end at 6pm; preparation period starts at 11am;

  • Place: the workshops are held in schools in surrounding areas of Seoul;

  • Method: workshops are conducted in 5(or more) steps:
    a) Preparation of classrooms and materials.
    b) Lunch and briefing (provided by ILHK).
    c) Opening Ceremony (with children, parents, volunteers, teachers, guests etc).
    d) 4 classes - each group has 3 foreign teachers (volunteers) and each of the classes is conducted by one teacher in circulatory manner (the most popular activity is repeated at the 4th class). Help and Fun teams prepare the snacks, help with the activities in each classroom, prepare diplomas etc for the children. Each class lasts 30-35 minutes; there is break of 10 minutes in between when the Help and Fun team share the snacks etc.
    e) Closing ceremony and fun activity.
    f) Returning to the subway station (provided transport).

  The International Learning Hub Korea will award all volunteers who participated in the workshops two times or more with the Participation Certifications supported by highly reputed entities such as National Assembly Social Contribution Forum & Next Generation Leaders Forum.

*Since ILHK is promoting availability of the education all the activities and materials should be available to all ages and easily obtainable – meaning inexpensive but highly creative and amusing.

**Considering the fact that the workshops are designed for children, all ILHK members are obligated to undergo health and criminal background checkups.

***As the workshops are held out of Seoul, but not that far the transportation from the nearest subway station is guaranteed.
